Warm Hope Project Introduction(The following is taken from its website, http://www.warmhope.ca)

“The woven baskets that care about the small squares can be seen in many waiting rooms of Hamilton’s Henderson Hospital, Juravinski Cancer Treatment Center and Wellwood Organization. The basket contains wool, sweater needles, and some woven small squares of wool. It is prepared for visitors waiting in the waiting room. In the basket you can also find a encapsulated knitting instruction. Countless knitters will knit a piece by themselves or weavers will knit only a few stitches, and finally by Wellwood's Volunteers spliced these woven squares into a beautiful and warm Afghan (blanket) to warm, comfort or encourage a cancer patient. All the Afghan completed by these volunteers will be given to cancer patients being treated for free.

We are very grateful to all the weavers who participated in the Wellwood Warm Hope Weaving Project, because you can't imagine how grateful and comforted those who received Afghan. The project has given out more than 17,000 Afghan since its inception! "The following is the story of a deceased cancer patient:

"When Liz was undergoing cancer treatment, she felt great comfort from the warm hope Afghan presented. A piece of Afghan is woven by countless caring hearts and dexterous hands. These precious Afghan help patients through the hardships. Chemotherapy. During chemotherapy, patients are more likely to feel cold than usual, and it is harder to keep warm. These Afhgans are very practical and special gifts for cancer patients.

It is hope that plays a decisive role in the entire treatment process of cancer. The volunteers who weave these precious Afghan and help another person fight cancer also feel warm in their hearts, because they know that they are helping some people facing terminal illness not only to keep warm in their bodies, but also in their hearts!
