Love My Hood – RCI Seniors Social Connection Gathering

It was a crazy weather day on April 14th, freezing rain, ice pallet and horrible wind. But inside of Burlington Tansley Wood Community Centre, RCI seniors had a wonderful social gathering event with the funding from City of Burlington Love My Hood project.

There were about forty seniors attended the event. At the beginning of the gathering, Mr. Liu lead the warm-up exercise, everyone learned how to relax their head and body with some simple massage moves. Then two talented ladies performed a song with harmonica and some wonderful singing.

Our MC, Mrs Tian, introduced the concept of “Earth Day”. She mentioned that it was very important for people to maintain a healthy relationship with the nature, respect the environment around us, and love the earth, which is also benefiting us and our children.

After the environmental discussion followed by the Circle Dance. Circle Dance is new to RCI seniors, but it was not very difficult for everyone to dance along. Seniors were divided into two groups. With some simple instruction from Mrs. Zhang, everyone was dancing together with the lovely music. People were holding hands and enjoying the happiness from the dance.

During the following free time, some of the seniors played cards, knitting group were busy with their Afghan for cancer patients, some people started to learn a new game called UNO. In the mean time, Redleaf Choir in the other room also drew lots of attention from our seniors. Everyone was busy with something.

Time was flying, two hours were gone fast. It was the time for birthday celebration. We celebrated the birthday for people who was born between January and April. Best wishes and yummy cake, everyone felt the care and love from each other within this big RCI family.
