Sing the cloud and look to the future
In April 2018, with the funding support of the City of Burlington and Redleaf Cultural Integration, Redleaf Chior came to life.
The choir hired a professional instructor and provided regular rehearsal. In May, 2019, it successfully held its first concert at Glad Tidings Church. There were five different choirs from local community joined and presented their choir.
Since Redleaf Choir was established, the members have actively participated in various community cultural activities and performed in many senior apartments for multiple times to showcase Chinese culture and bring joy to elders.
In 2020, the pandemic has changed people's lives, but the choir has not stopped. In September, the choir committee decided to start online rehearsal. They hired a professional conductor Lina Li, who holds Ph.D. degree in Piano accompaniment from Boston University and has many years of experience in leading choirs.
Within one year, the choir has learned and recorded 10 songs, which is including Chinese traditional music as well as western music. They also made several choir videos and shown in Christmas, Lunar New Year, and Culture Days events, and received overwhelming positive feedback.
The number of choir members has grown from initial 20 people to 50 people now. Not only everyone improved their singing skills, but they also enjoy learning together, making friends, and finding a sense of belongs.
“Singing together lift your heart, warm the soul, and make you feel good”. Redleaf Choir will continually be reaching out to engage more people to sing learn together, to benefit to people’s physical and social wellbeing in the community.
