2021 Lunar New Year Celebration organized by Redleaf Cultural Integration (RCI) successfully concluded on the evening of February 6. This virtual celebration is extraordinary in terms of conception, arrangement, and production receiving unanimous praise and warm congratulations from viewers both in Canada and overseas.
The Mayor of Burlington, Ms. Marianne Meed Ward expressed her strong affirmation of RCI in helping new immigrants live and work in the local community and promote multiculturalism. Karina Gould, Member of the Canadian Parliament and Minister of International Development, also sent a warm greeting to the local Asian community.
During the opening part of the celebration, a series of art show of ink and water painting, sugar painting, and tea painting with the theme of Year of the Ox were presented to showcase Asian arts. The cultural showcase was followed by traditional dancing and vocal performances to demonstrate different cultures in Asian countries. A local choir InstaChoir was invited to sing “Halleluiah” in the show.
The most unique part of this year’s event is we have made videos about seniors sharing their stories on how RCI carried out various online activities during the pandemic to help them cope with the pandemic as well as how the local Chinese community started to support the frontline medical staff by making caps for them.
“Teach You a New Year’s Special Dish” was also interspersed between the programs, which symbolized the “prosperity” of traditional Chinese culture. There are also three generations of Chinese and Western families making dumplings together to celebrate the festival.
The Celebration ended with a tidal wave of New Year blessings expressed in different dialects and languages by people of different ages and ethnic groups, which left the audience immersed in joy and happiness for a long time…
