June is Seniors Month in Ontario—a special time to recognize and celebrate the contributions of older adults, while also focusing on their overall well-being. This year’s theme, “Fit, Active and Healthy Seniors,” highlights the importance of healthy living, social connection, and lifelong learning in enhancing the quality of life for seniors.
Ontario offers a variety of programs and services to support older adults, including Seniors Active Living Centres (SALCs). These centres are dedicated to promoting seniors’ health and wellness by offering opportunities for social interaction, educational programs, and support services that help them stay healthy and live independently.
This year, the Chinese SALC, a program under the Redleaf Cultural Integration (RCI) was officially designated as a Seniors Active Living Centre. It serves Chinese seniors in Burlington and surrounding areas, aiming to create a caring and vibrant community space through culturally tailored programming and fill a critical service gap. During the month of June, in addition to RCI’s weekly regular programming, the Chinese SALC hosted a special “Father’s Day” celebration party for nearly 30 older and senior men providing much needed social connections, mental stimulations, friendship and fun.
