Review of Previous Seniors Program

Learning photography, love life

Many people like photography, and the elderly are no exception. During the fight against the epidemic, in order to satisfy the interests of the elderly, Hongye Cultural Association Recreation Home specially invited senior photographer Mr. Huang Shicheng to hold seven photography lectures for everyone.

In the cloud ZOOM class, Mr. Huang taught us the basics of photography using mobile phones and tablet computers: how to frame a picture, compose a picture, master exposure and tone, and also talked about how to retouch a picture to make his photography more perfect, which is very popular with everyone. .

Especially in the first four lectures on the topic of "post-processing of photos", the teacher left the students with appropriate homework every time after the class. Everyone used their brains and hands. In the specific practice of completing the homework, we have a preliminary grasp Some retouching skills and techniques. When you see the repaired photos appear in front of us, don't mention it! Someone said, “In the past, it’s good to be able to take photos of people and scenes. If you don’t know how to do it, you can modify it and turn waste into treasure. It’s amazing and fun.” The elderly have a sense of gain and accomplishment. I feel more passionate about learning photography. The teacher fully affirmed everyone's meticulous learning attitude. The works of Sun Hong, Ren Shujun, Weng Shifang, Deng Jiaming, Sun Minsong and others have been well received by teachers and students. When Teacher Huang opened his photo album, we were fortunate enough to see his dazzling collection of masterpieces, which was exhilarating, amazing and enviable! Let us broaden our horizons and improve our appreciation of photographic art.

In response to the strong request of everyone, Mr. Huang added three classes of "Landscape Photography", "Character Photography", and "Work Comment" for us. More and more people are online listening to classes; teachers are spending longer and longer lectures; people who hand in homework are more enthusiastic; good works are emerging in large numbers. From April 20th to June 1st, our photography lectures attracted more than 180 person-times, and the students were rewarded, reaching and surpassing the expected results, and a complete success!

Our teacher, Mr. Huang Shicheng, is the best. He is the Deputy Secretary-General of the Atlantic Photographers Association, the host and editor of the 500 px photography tribe of the Association, a former vice chairman of the North American Mobile Photography Association, a member of the Art Steering Committee and a photojournalist for the "Voice of Maple" magazine. Won the "Golden Maple Award" in the Mobile Photo Contest and the Pioneer Photographer Medal at the Toronto International Photography Festival. He loves life and is obsessed with photography. A dead tree, a mass of white snow, a forest, a small flower, a magnificent waterfall, an inconspicuous puddle, a light bulb, and a bird are all objects of capture. His works have a wide range of subjects, profound artistic conception, originality, and full of agility. This is what Huang has been working hard and earnestly persevering on the road of photography art for more than ten years! Teacher Huang is also a person who is good at thinking and expressing. After reading his twenty-six "diary" essays "Thinking about the Canadian Epidemic", I am even more in awe of such a photographer!

The so-called "time is quiet and good" is just a kind of pursuit, a kind of state of mind. Although the environment we live in is changing rapidly and sometimes even unsatisfactory, but "beauty is everywhere" should be discovered with people's eyes and praised with true feelings. Let us pick up the camera, take pictures of the best things in the world, and be a positive person who loves life. The photography class is over. Teacher Huang opened a window for us to communicate and answer questions, and we look forward to seeing you again soon! Thank you Mr. Huang Shicheng for your hard work!

                                                                                                                                                                                                       Tian Geng 06.15.2020

Knitting group day trip

On June 9, 2019, Hongye Cultural Association Knitting Group Summer Day Tour.

We first arrived at the Wellwood Cancer Community Center in Hamilton. After weaving blankets for cancer patients for two years, our weaver girls were able to see the organization of this project and learn about the community's work for cancer patients and their families. The Wellwood Cancer Community Center was established 30 years ago. It gathers the experiences of people who fight cancer in their lives and work, shares their wisdom, and helps everyone to alleviate the hardships of the fight against cancer. The Weaver Girls of Recreation Home have made 180 blankets so far, all of which have been donated to cancer patients through Wellwood, which conveys the care between people.

Apart from making blankets, the weaver girls also exchanged knitting experience with each other. The sun hats in the picture are made by everyone themselves. Through weaving we have gained friendship, learned skills, and a lot of fun. On the day of the visit, we also went to a small waterfall nearby, and ended up with a rich lunch in the flavor garden.

On June 9th, RCI knitting club visited Wellwood Center.

Tree Planting Activity

Spring in Canada is long overdue, and the weather changed suddenly last week, with freezing rain and snow. The temperature rebounded this week, the sun was shining, and the spring breeze was warm. Good weather, good mood! At noon on April 21, 18 members of the RCI Seniors program participated in the tree planting activity jointly organized by the City of Burlington and the Burlington Green Organization. ,

In this good season when the spring breeze is warming and everything is flourishing, we came to Tuck Park to plant trees. Green tents, green posters, green slogans, and green medals are full of vitality and vitality. People from all walks of life, men and women, old and young, people of different skin colors and different languages gather here to plant trees and protect the green hand in hand. Here, the green grass and the wind are soothing, and here, small trees line up for you and me to plant! A group of Chinese people wearing the Little Red Riding Hood of Recreation House are particularly eye-catching.

At the beginning of the event, Ontario Councilor Eleanor McMahon gave a speech. She thanked the green organization for a series of environmental protection activities, and also thanked everyone who came to participate and actively contribute to the community. The organizer also interviewed Zhang Lei, the head of the RCI. Everyone rushed to take a group photo.

At the beginning of tree planting, professionals explained the requirements for digging pits, planting seedlings, filling soil, applying fertilizer, watering, and cultivating sawdust, and made on-site demonstrations. People can't wait to enter the site and start planting trees. I saw: men and women match, work is not tired. Husband and wife plant trees and have a close heart. Friends join hands to sow friendship. Mother and son plant trees, pinning hope. It's a good time for you to chase after me, a lively and moving labor scene. A man planted a tree and tied an orange logo. There is a family who, after finishing a tree of each type, surrounded the young saplings and took a group photo. There was a mother who came to plant a tree with a baby in her arms, bent over and shoveled the soil, unwilling to be left behind. A few little girls, holding a flowerpot full of sawdust, hopped across the green ground, flying up and down like beautiful colorful butterflies. Songs and laughter floated far away, Baiyun leisurely people were intoxicated. An hour and a half passed, and more than two hundred saplings were firmly rooted in the fertile soil. Looking at the gratifying results of labor, people forget fatigue and feel deeply satisfied and happy.

The event is coming to an end, and the organizer has prepared snacks and drinks to comfort everyone. The lucky draw brought surprises and continued cheers. Happy people took a group photo on the green space, leaving beautiful shadows. Freeze this unforgettable moment. "When trees are green, the earth has a pulse." Love green planting, because of the greenness in the heart; planting trees and planting virtues will benefit future generations. Only with trees can there be refreshing and fresh air, and with trees can there be a harmonious and beautiful living environment. Burlington is one of the most livable cities in Canada. May the trees here be more lush and dense, the air here more fresh and nourishing, and the mountains and rivers beautiful and the environment more beautiful and pleasant.

All members of the RCI Seniors program, who participated in the tree planting today, not only contributed to the Burlington community, but also shared a good time of mutual interaction, unity and friendship under the bright sun, blue sky and white clouds.

Warm Hope Project Introduction(The following is taken from its website, http://www.warmhope.ca)

“The woven baskets that care about the small squares can be seen in many waiting rooms of Hamilton’s Henderson Hospital, Juravinski Cancer Treatment Center and Wellwood Organization. The basket contains wool, sweater needles, and some woven small squares of wool. It is prepared for visitors waiting in the waiting room. In the basket you can also find a encapsulated knitting instruction. Countless knitters will knit a piece by themselves or weavers will knit only a few stitches, and finally by Wellwood's Volunteers spliced these woven squares into a beautiful and warm Afghan (blanket) to warm, comfort or encourage a cancer patient. All the Afghan completed by these volunteers will be given to cancer patients being treated for free.

We are very grateful to all the weavers who participated in the Wellwood Warm Hope Weaving Project, because you can't imagine how grateful and comforted those who received Afghan. The project has given out more than 17,000 Afghan since its inception! "The following is the story of a deceased cancer patient:

"When Liz was undergoing cancer treatment, she felt great comfort from the warm hope Afghan presented. A piece of Afghan is woven by countless caring hearts and dexterous hands. These precious Afghan help patients through the hardships. Chemotherapy. During chemotherapy, patients are more likely to feel cold than usual, and it is harder to keep warm. These Afhgans are very practical and special gifts for cancer patients.

It is hope that plays a decisive role in the entire treatment process of cancer. The volunteers who weave these precious Afghan and help another person fight cancer also feel warm in their hearts, because they know that they are helping some people facing terminal illness not only to keep warm in their bodies, but also in their hearts! "

RCI Seniors Attended Community Tree Planting

the community planting event organized by City of Burlington. There was about 300 different varieties trees planted by our seniors and the local residents.

Everyone was enjoying the beautiful weather, fresh air, and the great feeling of achievements!

Because the partners of the partners are different, everyone jokingly said: We are planting "husband and wife tree", "friendship tree", "brother's tree" and "sister tree". Song Ruzhu and Shao Lianyi and his wife planted 7 young saplings in one go. They lovingly touched the trees like their own children. Wang Xiang and Zhang Nianwen came back to visit relatives in Canada and also came to participate in tree planting. People have forgotten about the year, forgetting about fatigue, and working so hard and doing well. Everyone is a tree planter. Together with the local residents, they quickly completed the task of planting nearly 300 trees.

The elders of the Recreation Home who participated in this activity each received a red baseball cap with the "Recreation Home" logo, which was particularly eye-catching among the green grass. Everyone looked back at the newly planted tree and nodded to people frequently, feeling very satisfied and joyful.

After planting the trees, everyone still greeted each other warmly, and was hesitant to leave. In the end, a group photo was taken, and the smiling faces were filled with joy and pride. The person in charge of the Burlington municipality is very grateful to the parents of the Hongye Cultural Association for their dedication to actively participate in the construction of the community. Planting trees and afforestation is a career that looks forward to benefiting future generations. You plant a tree, I plant a tree, and everyone will plant the tree.

Today, the small saplings we planted by ourselves will grow into towering trees, prop up large green shades, and protect our children and grandchildren. I hope Canada, our second hometown, will become even more beautiful.
